TOTOKU Launches New Grayscale LCD with 6M Independent Subpixels

TOKYO, Japan, September 29, 2008 – TOTOKU Electric Co., Ltd. developed a new 21.3” 6-mega independent subpixel drive (ISD), grayscale medical display. The MS21i2 is a high-resolution display utilizing independent subpixel drive technology. The MS21i2 achieves 1276-step simultaneously displayable grayscale palette by using enhanced ISD technology* enabling more accurate display images. The MS21i2 will be exhibited at RSNA 2008 (Radiological Society of North America) in Chicago, U.S.A., November 30th through December 5th.

TOTOKU introduces the new, affordable MS21i2, a unique display that achieves 6M ISD resolution, utilizing a 2MP panel and our unique subpixel-drive technology. By utilizing our revolutionary subpixel drive technology, the MS21i2 provides comparatively the same resolution as a 6 MP display, without the extra costs typically associated with higher resolution displays.

Features
[1276-step Simultaneously Displayable Grayscale]
Up to 1276 shades of gray are simultaneously displayable enabling smooth and accurate display of subtle differences between the displayed shades of gray.

[AR Coating for Film-like Black and Improved Sharpness]
The special, patent pending AR coating of the MS21i2 offers more film-like black depiction and accurate reproduction of images while reducing reflection on display surface.

[Excellent Image Quality Control Features]
For advanced luminance control, the MS21i2 employs λ-Sentinel II, a front sensor system in which the luminance sensor is located on the panel surface and controls the backlight luminance.

[ISD Technology]
By driving each of the sub-pixel values corresponding to the detailed information captured in the original recorded image, the resolution of the panel is multiplied three times, enhancing the resolution of the display. (Patent pending) Moreover, the new, enhanced ISD technology actualized 1276-step simultaneously displayable grayscale.

*Customized viewer software is required to display images with enhanced resolution by the ISD technology.
